Ever had a craving for chocolate? Yeah, right, not me! Well it could be as simple as a need for magnesium, which is found in raw nuts, seeds, legumes, and fruits.
Food cravings are your body’s way of telling you that you need something found within a particular food’s ingredients or chemical makeup. Dr. Colleen Huber NMD, has created a list of cravings and recommendations of healthy ways to address the food cravings without over-indulging or binging.
Dr. Huber is a Naturopathic Medical Doctor and Primary Care Physician who focuses on herbal medicine, nutrition, intravenous therapies, environmental medicine and acupuncture.
So what is a Naturopathic Medic Doctor (NMD)? After graduation from a four-year college or university, naturopaths are trained in four-year medical colleges just as other physicians are. The difference is that in naturopathic medical school, in addition to learning such basic medical sciences as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, immunology, histology, neuroscience and genetics, naturopaths also take classroom courses in the clinical sciences: obstetrics, gynecology, urology, cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, rheumatology, oncology, gerontology, otorhinolaryngology and dermatology. Then they also learn the naturopathic therapies. which include: clinical nutrition (that is nutrition as both a healing therapy and applied biochemistry), botanical medicine (nutritive and therapeutic herbs), homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine such as acupuncture and Chinese herbs, as well as environmental medicine, physical medicine and hydrotherapy. Naturopaths are trained both in the classroom and in a variety of clinical settings.
If you’re familiar with NMD’s in the DFW metro area, please let us know and we’ll reference them here.
