National Polka Festival, Ennis, TX May 23-25

Looking for the perfect Holiday day trip this weekend?  Take a short drive about 40 miles south of Dallas and visit Ennis for the National Polka Festival.  Started in 1966, the festival has flourished and annually, over 50,000 Czeck afficonados flood the town.   What is Polka you ask?  Well, it’s Czech country music dancing.

In Texas, the Czech culture has flourished and morphed into a Tex-Czech hybrid. There will be polkaing into the night in 3 different Polka Halls featuring various forms of Polka…gotta love the accordians and oompah bands!  and sources of good Kolaches (Czech pastries).  The Ennis National Polka Festival begins with a parade with over 200 floats.  Now like most small texas town parades, their definition of ‘float’ is very liberal, from the culturally colorful, to well, you’ll just have to go and see for yourself.  That is what makes this a very fun parade to watch.

There are the usual arts and crafts fair plus a few Czech unique items, and the oh so good food and pastries!

One daily admission includes all three participating halls: KJT, K of C, and Sokol
(Country Concert is extra)
