Berry season has arrived. Did you know you can pick your own fresh Blackberries right now? Just a short drive north to the Bailey’s Berry Patch where they have over three acres of blackberries ready for the picking. They also have six more acres of blueberries that will be ready around June 10th according to Ann, “The Berry Lady”.
The Berry Patch is open Tuesday thru Sunday from 8am to 3pm. They provide buckets to pick with that hold just over a gallon and they charge $12 per level bucket of berries, not by the pound. There is a minimum charge of $6 a gallon for 1/2 bucket or less. Between 1/2 bucket and a full bucket is prorated. They accept cash, credit cards and checks.
Located halfway between Gainesville, Texas and Sherman, Texas, 12 miles south of the Oklahoma border, you’ll find four different varities of blackberries, as well as four different blueberries. Only two of the blackberry varities have thorns, though of course, those produce the largest, most attractive berries. Come on out and make it a family day. Pack a lunch, enjoy the trip to the country and dine at their picnic tables set up under large oak trees. Children can fish in the catfish pond.
