Some folks are already lined up right this minute, waiting for the iPhone to be released. The iPhone is probably one of the most anticipated consumer electronic gadgets to date. Six whole months of media attention, hype, praises and bashes, speculation and expectation; you name it and it’s been done! Well, this Friday is the moment of truth, folks, when the iPhone lands in the hands of the public for the real-world test. So tell us honestly, will you buy an iPhone? Why or why not?
The iPhone will be sold under an exclusive agreement with AT&T. For all of us Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and other wireless carrier clients, we’re out of luck, which may not be such a bad thing…read on.
The units come in 4GB or 8GB models and cost $500/600 respectively. As you probably know, AT&T offers dozens of confusing service plans for their traditional phones, Apple has persuaded AT&T to develop custom ’simplified’ plans for the new devices which will range from $60-100 monthly, and can be placed on a family plan as well, but there’s still enough choices to make you crazy, especially after absorbing the purchase price of the device alone plus activation fee.
Expecting to sell over 1 Million units this weekend, AT&T has brought on over 2,000 additional employees to handle the traffic rush. We’ve heard that local stores will be closing early on Friday (around 4pm) to prepare for the sales rush, then all will re-open at 6pm local time in each time zone to begin selling the product. Yes, like the Cabbage Patch doll, XBOX 360, Sony Playstation and more, they expect a line at every location, and it’s unknown how many units each store will be allocated, but it sounds like they don’t want to miss any sales!
Now I love new technology but prefer to wait for Version 2.0. It’s already a strong rumor that the next “generation” of iPhone will be out in less than a year.
If you do get one, let us know how you like it! For a description of all the features, directly from Apple, click here.

Lucky.
By early morning Friday, over 8 hours before the iPhone was to go on sale, it was reported there was a long line outside the AT&T Store at 2499 and 407. Wonder how long it was by 6pm…and if anybody was getting wet waiting in line around the metro!
