Lady Bird helped launch the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. It is a leading advocate for native plant conservation.

In 1970, Mrs. Johnson visited Flower Mound when it was little more than, well, a Mound! As she was accompanied to the top of the mound itself, she was delighted with it’s natural beauty and marveled at the more than 175 species of wild flowers all in one place and commented that this was one of the most beautiful places she had seen.
