Gaylord Texan Summerfest 2008, thru Aug 31, 2008

Last year was great with flying acrobatic performances in the atrium.  So how do you top that?  The patriotic American way….with fireworks of course…and in the atrium no less.  Yes, the Gaylord Texan theme for their summer celebration is Fireworks and Fireflies.  Bringing the outdoors in this year, the hotel offers an indoor fireworks show each Friday and Saturday, a live concert series, junior chef’s camps, wine and cheese parties, and so much more.

National Polka Festival, Ennis, TX May 23-25

Looking for the perfect Holiday day trip this weekend?  Take a short drive about 40 miles south of Dallas and visit Ennis for the National Polka Festival.  Started in 1966, the festival has flourished and annually, over 50,000 Czeck afficonados flood the town.   What is Polka you ask?  Well, it’s Czech country music dancing.

You can know another summer is arriving with the arrival of the Lewisville Summer Concert Series.   Join family and friends on Tuesday evenings this summer to enjoy great musical entertainment.  Weekly concerts include a variety of bands from funk to rock to polka music. The Summer Concert Series will start on Tuesday, June 3 and run until Tuesday, July 22. Please note the 2008 series location has been changed to Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town Lewisville. Concerts will be held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Want to be a Storm Spotter?

FM Fire Department to Host Storm Spotting Class

The Flower Mound Fire Department will host a storm spotter class at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at Central Fire Station, 3838 Forums Drive.

The class, facilitated by Gary Woodall with the National Weather Service, will teach participants about various types of severe weather including what conditions are present during these events and the invaluable service that storm spotters provide for their communities.

Upon completion of the course, individuals will have the knowledge available to serve as a storm spotter. For more information about storm spotting, visit www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/stormspotting.
